I’m in Roma

When I arrived at Fiumicino airport I was in Rome.  When I checked into the hostel that is near the Stazione Termini, I was in Rome.  When I was walking the streets of Rome and seeing the Pantheon, walking the Spanish Steps, feeling the water from the fountains of Piazza Navona I was in Rome.  But even though all of these events were vivid moments, I still didn’t completely know I was in Rome.  Until Sunday around 2100 I was eating pizza from a local restaurant in Trastevere looking out from the fourth floor window of the apartment is when it hit me.  I was seeing and hearing the Tiber River and Romans driving with the Palatine Hill in the background while in one of the oldest communities of Roma.  That view had this connection of today’s Romans with history of thousands of years.  That moment is when I completely felt and knew I was in Rome.
